[The video doesn't show who is talking even though it's on. He doesn't seem particularly bothered to have the camera turned to the opposite wall which is bare except for a red samurai helmet with a nasty cut down the middle sitting on a pile of black fabric on the floor. The speaker clears his throat and speaks.]
So is there anything to do here other than hold hands?
[The confusion mixed with disdain is clear in his voice.]
I tried fightin' the robots at the game centers, but they got mad and put me in jail for a night. The guards wouldn't fight me either which is kinda dumb if you ask me. They're guards. They should be ready to spar at a moment's notice.
[The speaker growls and then sighs, shifting behind the communicator.]
I get that they're all soft or whatever, but they kept saying it has to be "positive physical contact?" What the hell's that supposed to mean? Hitting each other is positive, ain't it? If you manage to land a blow on me, I'll be pretty damn pleased with you at least. I'm not gettin' any stronger by sittin' around here and you don't seem to have any battles for me to fight, so what'm I supposed to do? Rust?
If anyone wants to spar, come find me in the city square. I dunno how long they'll let us beat each other up until they throw me back in jail, but maybe we can get a few licks in.
[He signs off. Then, after a moment, signs back on.]
Uh...right. My name's Doudanuki Masakuni. Look for the sword---man, the swordsman with the scar. On his face. My face. I have a scar on my face. You can...probably...see it on this thing, huh.
...
[He sighs in annoyance and turns the video off again.]
❥ Name: Doudanuki Masakuni (The name of his sword line is Doudanuki, and Masakuni is the name of his smith. He doesn't technically have a normal Western order first-last name.)
❥ Canon: Touken Ranbu
❥ Canon Point: Based primarily on the game, pre-Kiwame journey. He'll have memories of up to Regiment Battle 3 (2017-2018) since that's the last time I played the game and before many of the newest swords started showing up. He won't be aware of Jurakutei and his last memories will be of being sent to Kyoto (World 6: Ikedaya).
❥ Fandom OC Approval: N/A
❥ History: Wikia Link for Doudanuki | World Information | Fanmade History (based on historical research)
❥ CRAU?: N/A
❥ Personality: Utilitarian by nature, Doudanuki doesn't believe in swords being collected and created purely for art's sake. He's the quintessential sword - forgoing much of his new humanity in favor of focusing on strength training and fighting. Born into a world of war, he's single-minded about his approach to swords and their uses. He believes that as long as someone is strong, sturdy, and can be used for their true purpose, then nothing else really matters. He balks at being given jobs that he considers "unsuitable" for weapons of war like fieldwork, but goes into sparring practice with gusto. However, when he doesn't have anything to do (no specific given tasks), even he can relax and lay about. In the comics, he roasts sweet potatoes for the tanto and in the anime, he's often seen doing some sort of strength training in the background.
Doudanuki's speech and manners are very "boorish" and masculine compared to some of the other swords, and his monotone, practical clothing reflects his personality. He doesn't care about his looks as long as he's strong and useful. Even when he levels up in the game, he touches on the fact that he has no desire to change how he looks despite his new level. Moreover, his desire to be useful stems from the pain of being discarded when Japan entered a peaceful era. As the amalgamation of the entire Doudanuki Masakuni line of swords, rather than the representation of a specific sword like most of the other tsukumogami, he is particularly aware of what happens to swords when they outlive their usefulness. Many Doudanuki swords were melted for scrap or relegated to warehouses and later discarded because they were no longer useful in an era of peace when swords were more valued for their artistic and aesthetics than their cutting ability.
In the comics, he wants to get along with others, but he simply doesnft know how. He tries various things because he believes that being liked is one path toward being considered a useful part of the Citadel and thus being put to use in battle. In the anime, he's a typical jock - his room is full of exercise equipment, he does pull-ups when he can't sleep at night, and his main purchases are protein powders whereas others get things like sunglasses or magazines. Despite being a war sword, he doesn't hate peace itself - just the fact that it results in him having nothing to do. Ironically, he hates leading and is far more comfortable being part of a team than pushing a solo mission or being the head strategist. He actually complains if he's put at the head of any of the teams. And when he dies in battle, he says it's a natural outcome of going to war and he believes a death on the battlefield suits him, likely because so many of his swords perished in obscurity by rusting away or being melted.
Doudanuki doesn't crave attention - when he's made MVP he even apologizes for stealing the spotlight and he has very little by the way of famous deeds to his name. Most of the other swords had famous owners, were part of famous battles, or at the very least had a singular sword or weapon they represented. Doudanuki lacks this because he is the collective identity of the swords made by the swordsmith Doudanuki Masakuni. Thus he clings to the one feat he does have attributed to him - cutting the steel helmet when no other sword can. He carries the split helmet with him, even into battle, and one of his battle cries references the deed: "A cut for half (of a sun, the measurement for a sword, or 1.50cm) is a fatal one!" 1.50 centimeters is reportedly how deeply the Doudanuki sword cut the helmet.
Overall, Doudanuki is a straightforward, honest type of spirit who focuses on what he's good at and gives his all to every battle. He may be rough around the edges and lack a certain amount of refinement, but he's a solid, trustworthy ally that will protect and defend his master and history. As annoyed as he gets at being injured or unable to fight, he realizes that the ultimate goal of war is peace and isn't going to resist the flow of time. He hopes, like all the swords, that the Saniwa is successful in stopping the Retrograding Army - and if he gets to have some fun and tear up the battlefield once more in the meantime, then what's so bad about that, right?
❥ Abilities:
❥ Extras: Would you like your characters abilities nerfed? Not at this time! He's not that powerful.
Did your character bring anything along (limit 3 items) with them? His sword (his vessel), his red helmet that he cut, and a single gold troop ball (catapult - he can only summon them once at the beginning of any battle and they can only be used in areas where a catapult would actually be useful, meaning open spaces and not within city streets)
Which god will they choose to support? Diacht or Rawna, please. I'll take a random coin flip between the two.

❥ Abilities:
- Swordsmanship - no particular style, but he's extremely adept at Japanese sword arts
- Hand to Hand combat - he's adept at hand to hand combat for things like grappling, wrestling, judo, karate, aikido, and the like.
- Heartier than the average human in that he can take more damage than a human of superior athletic ability. He's strong and fast, and can leap between buildings or make jumps that seem impossible for a regular person.
- His sword is his real body, so unless that breaks he won't necessarily die, but his physical one still takes damage and too much of it can reflect upon the sword in nicks and cuts that need to be repaired before he himself can recover. Small injuries, however, tend to heal unnaturally fast and in general he heals quicker than a human should
- He still requires the usual basics like food, drink, and sleep, but he can go longer without than the a human can
- He can "demanifest" or retreat into his sword, becoming an inanimate object with minimal cognition of the world around him in cases of extreme stress, injury, or as a battle tactic. In the anime, Katsugeki, the swords are shown traveling through space-time in their sword form, remanifesting as people on the other side of the time portal.
- Minimal spiritual recognition; he can get a feeling if someone is a fellow spirit, but not necessarily tell what kind of whether he's right. It's more like an itch at the back of his brain that tells him something is up
- Spontaneous flower summoning - an in-game mechanic, when the character is in particularly good shape or happy, cherry blossoms will sometimes randomly appear around them like a personal shower of flower petals. It's a pain to clean up.
- He can summon troops from a gold orb. Swords are limited to the number and types of troops they can summon, but they can act in battle at the sword's command - appearing at the beginning of a battle to deal damage or to absorb damage from an enemy's attack. If the orb takes too much damage, it breaks and the summoned spirits within it die.
